Dover: Del Rods Car Cub of Dover brings music to Dover Place
During the Christmas season, a lot of things bring us joy. Music has a somewhat magical affect that can transform us to a feeling of happiness. Perhaps more importantly, music brings back memories of long ago.
Kyla Gloeckler, Life Enrichment Coordinator at Dover Place Senior Living Community along with Nancy Yerger of The Del Rods Car Club have found that, in some cases, music therapy can assist those who have experienced significant memory loss. Members of The Del Rods Car Club of Dover donated some MP3 players along with gift cards which will allow songs selected specifically for individual residents, to be loaded onto the MP3’s. The units are then given to a resident for their unlimited listening pleasure and perhaps, some recollection of times gone by.
Pictured below are from left: Kyla Gloeckler, Dick Yerger of Del Rods, Virginia Kelly, Executive Director at Dover Place, Nancy Yerger, Warren Hensley and Mary Ellen Knotts of Del Rods.

A Christmas Affair To Remember! Our members enjoyed a fantastic evening at the Mapledale Country Club last evening! It was wonderful to see so many members coming together to enjoy conversations as well as a great meal, a gift exchange and an all around good time. The holidays will seem extra special with the thoughts of so many well wishes we all gave and received.
Thank you, to everyone who attended! A "HUGE" thank you Mary Ellen Knotts who took on the task of making all the arrangements for our outing. "KNOTT" (pun intended) only did she make many phone calls, but, she paid a personal visit to the venue just to ensure all was in order. I would guess there's a good chance Mapledale will see us again!
Merry Christmas to you and yours!

2017 Photo of the year!
And the winner is Dan Lee!
In, what I hope will be an annual event, a photo will be selected which will depict something rare. Over the last 10 months, I've looked at dozens of photos taken at our many functions. The photo below tells it all! Thanks to Dan for being a good sport but, more importantly, giving us a tremendous reminder that a smile can do so much good!
So, as we get into the 2018 season of "car craziness" keep in mind the candid camera will be watching.

As winter pushes into the Dover area, temperatures plunge and we shiver.
Coming to the rescue of many folks are the ladies who comprise a group called:
Quilting For Others.
Using the patchwork design, these ladies create colorful and warm quilts for various people, including many veterans. Giving of their time and talents, the ladies all take great pride in the efforts put forth to assist others in the cold weather season. All quilts are donated to those in need.
The members of Del Rods were happy to donate $200 to assist them in their goal of making 20 quilts for veterans, this year. Pictured beow, accepting the donation from Warren W. Hensley, are Robin Aschenberg (center) and Ann Fischer (right).

Del Rods Car Club donates to Chapter 850 service dog fund
Joe Startt Jr., second from left, President of Kent County Chapter 850, Vietnam Veterans of America, accepts a $500 check from Warren Hensley, Del Rod’s Car Club President, (third from right) toward the training of a service dog for a Delaware disabled veteran. "This is an ongoing project of our chapter," said Mr. Startt. "We have been involved with training and placing three dogs to date and it's a wonderful feeling to see the face of a veteran finally taking a dog home to keep." It costs anywhere from $8,000 to 10,000 to train a dog and to match it with the veteran it will partner with. Also pictured are chapter members Dan Watson (left) and Ken Bodine. Tax deductible contributions can be sent to VVA Chapter 850, PO Box 1718, Dover, DE 19903, with Dog Fund in the memo area.
