As winter pushes into the Dover area, temperatures plunge and we shiver.
Coming to the rescue of many folks are the ladies who comprise a group called:
Quilting For Others.
Using the patchwork design, these ladies create colorful and warm quilts for various people, including many veterans. Giving of their time and talents, the ladies all take great pride in the efforts put forth to assist others in the cold weather season. All quilts are donated to those in need.
The members of Del Rods were happy to donate $200 to assist them in their goal of making 20 quilts for veterans, this year. Pictured beow, accepting the donation from Warren W. Hensley, are Robin Aschenberg (center) and Ann Fischer (right).

Del Rods Car Club donates to Chapter 850 service dog fund
Joe Startt Jr., second from left, President of Kent County Chapter 850, Vietnam Veterans of America, accepts a $500 check from Warren Hensley, Del Rod’s Car Club President, (third from right) toward the training of a service dog for a Delaware disabled veteran. "This is an ongoing project of our chapter," said Mr. Startt. "We have been involved with training and placing three dogs to date and it's a wonderful feeling to see the face of a veteran finally taking a dog home to keep." It costs anywhere from $8,000 to 10,000 to train a dog and to match it with the veteran it will partner with. Also pictured are chapter members Dan Watson (left) and Ken Bodine. Tax deductible contributions can be sent to VVA Chapter 850, PO Box 1718, Dover, DE 19903, with Dog Fund in the memo area.

Paying respect is a personal perspective, owned by each of us. No matter how you choose, the act of paying respect to anyone is usually appreciated. Today, we brought folks together in an effort to pay respect to those who have served in our military. We can only hope that, as we pass by with our flags waving in the breeze, the onlookers were satisfied to see us paying respect in our own way. Thank you so much, to Dan Lee, Jim Daimus, John and Pauline Koff, Ralph and Mary Ellen Knotts, Mary Anne Miller and yours truly for taking the time to demonstrate our appreciation to our veterans.
